My Avengers Line-up

Marvel comics is announcing their line-up for their relaunch of the Avengers comic book. The Avengers is a superteam like the Justice League.  You may have heard about the upcoming Avengers movie that’s being teased in films like The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and the soon-to-be-released Iron Man II, Thor, and Captain America films.

Something I often do instead of getting actual work done is think to myself “If I wrote the Avengers comic book, who would I put in the team roster?”  Here are my picks for The Avengers, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

1.) MANIMAL

Manimal was a TV show that ran on NBC from Sept. 1983 until Dec. 1983.  Almost four months!  It starred Simon MacCorkindale (yes, that’s the actor’s name) as Dr. Jonathan Chase, a man who could transform into any animal!  Check out this incredible transformation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iQ-mzYRl3s

2.) M.A.N.T.I.S.

M.A.N.T.I.S. is a show that ran on Fox from August 1994 until March 1995 (almost 8 months).  It starred Carl Lumbly (yes, that is the actor’s name) as Dr. Miles Hawkins, a paralyzed inventor who dons the M.A.N.T.I.S. exoskeleton he invented in order to  walk AND fight crime.  Wait, you have a device that will help paralyzed people to walk??!  Quit fighting crime with it and just make a bazillion dollars.  Check out Dr. Miles Hawkins in action: http://tinyurl.com/yccwyov

3.) Japanese Spider-man - Basically Spider-man but with a giant robot and a waaaaay better theme song.  Check it out!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcxioU7AMM4

4.) Nightman

Nightman was a television show that aired on the WGN Superstation from Sept. 1997 until May 1999.  It starred Matt McColm as jazz saxophonist Johnny Domino a.k.a. Nightman.  When a lightning bolt hit the cable car Johnny was travelling in his brain became “tuned to the frequency of evil” meaning he could hear evil thoughts.  He began fighting crime as Nightman.  The funniest parts of the show were when he had to leave his jazz gigs to fight crime.  He’d set up a hologram of himself playing saxophone and go out and thwart evil and then come back before his set was over so nobody discovered his secret.  If you fight crime at night, you probably shouldn’t have a night job.  That’s a scheduling nightmare.

Check out the awesome intro! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL71mUJm4FY

Oh and, unbelievably, Nightman once teamed up with Manimal in the episode “Manimal” so they know each other already and work well together.

5.) Dean Cain

And my final pick for the Avengers line-up would be Dean Cain, the actor, not Dean Cain as Superman.  Dean Cain has the awesome ability to star in movies like The Dog Who Saved Christmas and Maneater.  He’d be sort of the comic relief sidekick of the team and organize their charity free-throw tournaments.

I think this team would work together well and kick a lot of ass.  Marvel Comics, if you’re reading this, just shoot me an email.
