Circuitry Tattoo
I saw a guy on the subway train with a tattoo like this:

This wasn’t the tattoo I saw. The one I saw had WAAAAAAAAY more circuitry running all the way up and down the guy’s arm.
I was immediately kind of revolted. I am not judging all tattoos and people who have tattoos. I will simply say I don’t understand the appeal of a lot of body art.
Why (WHY?!) for the love of God would you just put circuitry all the way up and down your arm?
I get it. I get it. You’re saying, with your tattoo: “Hey man, we’re all part of a machine. We’re just circuits in the computer of oppression! We’re being PROGRAMMED by society, man! We exist only to transmit information and FEED THE MACHINE!”
But why would you say that on your ARM? Why is that the FIRST thing you want me to know about you? Because to me that’s as bad as meeting a guy with NO tattoos and the meeting goes down like this:
ME: “Hi, I’m Jared. How’s it going?”
HIM: We’re all part of a machine, man! We’re just circuits in the computer of oppression! We’re being PROGRAMMED by society, man! We exist only to trans—”
ME: [slowly backing away from you, looking for someone else to talk to]
When the first thing out of your mouth (or that I see when I look at your arm) is some faux intellectual diatribe, you’re not just being crazy, you’re being boring. You’re being crazy AND boring which is a rare combination.
You’re like one of those crazy people who just rocks back and forth on their haunches and stares off into space. Scary at first, but then after watching them awhile I’m thinking “Come on! Do something REALLY crazy!”
Or whatever. Maybe I’m wrong in my interpretation of the tattoo. I didn’t talk to the guy I saw. Maybe he just works in IT and he’s REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT IT. Which is sad in a different way.
Other tattoos I’ve seen in Brooklyn that I hated:
1) A woman who had ballet slippers and bows drawn onto her legs and feet
2) A guy who had Freddy Krueger’s face on one of his legs. TRUE!
I know the whole point for some people is to shock the “squares” but wouldn’t a more mature urban primitive have some consideration for those of us that have to look at your tattoos? I mean, it’s depressing for me when I look at your tattoo and I’m reminded of all the mistakes I made in MY life.
